A Video Message From Nigel Boulton, Head Coach


 
Dear Family Member or Supporter:
 
As a proud member of the Crusaders soccer program here at William Carey University I am asking for your help. Each member of our team is fundraising to help improve our program in many different ways. It is the American way in collegiate sports. Boosters, alumni and sponsors all support collegiate teams. Your support is much needed and will be greatly appreciated! 
 
Now let me tell you about our program.  We were previous members of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). In 2010 we moved into the highly competitive Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).The Crusaders soccer program has been consistently successful since its inception in 1987. In 2009 and 2008 we won the GCAC Regular-Season Championship and in 2007 were Tournament Champions. We have been nationally ranked the past 2 seasons finishing 2009 at 9th in the nation. We have set our sites on qualifying for the National Championships again in 2010. 
 
Leading the Crusaders is head coach Nigel Boulton a native of Cardiff, Wales. Prior to his hire by WCU he was the Director of Coaching for the state of Mississippi and before that head coach of the professional ‘A' League for the Worcester Wildfire near Boston Ma. He is a well respected and well qualified coach and enters his 8th season at the head of the program. He was Coach of the Year in 2003, 2008 and 2009.
 
At William Carey University we are expected to perform in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. Our Team GPA is rising and all of our players know the word "student" comes first in the phrase "student-athlete." Last year the team boasted 3 All-Americans, 2 Academic-All Americans, and 7 All-Conference Players.
 
Now the fundraising challenge… Unfortunately our budget does not increase with our win total, making it difficult to maintain a top-notch program. In recent years we have built a brand-new lighted game field with an adjacent practice field. Last year we built a running track around the entire soccer facility and we would like to continue to upgrade and add to our facilities.  We also purchased some essential equipment like a small utility vehicle for groundwork and a ride-on tractor mower designed specifically for cutting the custom Tiffen-Bermuda soccer style grass on our playing fields. One thing that is very important to our team is the need to play top quality opposition and to do that we must travel further with all the added cost that entails.
 
Full-time students juggling the demands of classes, studies, practices and games have few practical alternatives to raise money. My hope is you will make either a large or small donation on the behalf.

There are a limited number of locations for double sided boards that would face into the field of play toward the main supporter area and also back toward the parking lot and main entrance to WCU. These cost an additional $300 irrespective of the number of years required.
