Kansas City, Missouri- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the 30-team field and bracket for the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round and William Carey University women's soccer will begin their quest for the 2008 NAIA National Championship at home on Saturday November 22.
The two-time reigning Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Champs received one of fifteen first round games issued out by the NAIA.
"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to host the first round game. The girls have worked tremendously hard and deserve this chance," said Carey Head Coach Danny Owens.
The Lady Crusaders will take on Sooner Athletic Conference champion Oklahoma City University.
The Lady Stars will enter the game 16-4-1 on the season and are led by Freshman Forward Caroline Dixon from Manchester, England. Dixon has had a monster season or the Lady Stars totaling 26 goals and 15 assists.
"Oklahoma City has had a great season and is a great team. It will definitely be an exciting game and we are looking forward to the challenge," said Owens.
Carey enters the game 13-3-1 and is led by a quartet of goal scores. Jeana Erickson and Natalia Nino lead the Lady Crusaders in scoring with 13 goals apiece while Shannon Steffen leads the team in total points with 34 (12 goals & 10 assist). Aimi Beresford has added 10 goals and 6 assists.
This marks the second trip by the Lady Crusaders to National Tournament with the last being in 1999.
"This is the second time the program has made it to national tournament and it shows we are heading in the right direction, said Owens.
