Mobile, AL- William Carey men's golf posted rounds of 304-305 to finish in fifth place in the UM Classic at Herron Lakes Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Senior Corey Ward paced the Crusaders with rounds of 72-74 to finish in fourth place.
Lee Universities Tyler Smith took top honors finished at one under par 143 for the championship.
"I thought the guys played well for the most part," said WCU head coach DJ Pulley. " Monday was a real challenge with the greens and several tough pin placements but we found a way to fight thru it. The only thing that disappoints me from this week was our finish to round two." The Crusaders played the final three holes of round two at seven over par to finish nine shots behind Shorter University who took top honors with rounds of 291-309.
"We knew going in it was going to be a close finish because we had seven SSAC teams in the tournament plus Thomas, St. Ambrose, St. Francis, and Lindenwood so their was no margin for error. Finishing rounds is critical with a such a strong field and the I think guys understand they let one get away."
The Crusaders return to action in late February as they take part in the Badger Invitational hosted by Spring Hill College.
