Houston TX - The University of Texas at Brownsville took a first half lead much againjst the run of play from a direct free-kick when Crusader goalkeeper Carl Goody had been adjudged to have handled the ball outside his area. "I think Goody believed he was in the area, the yellow lines on the field turf football field were difficult to see, very pale," said coach Nigel Boulton, "there was confusion between both officials as to what the call was and the ref was not clear. I think he thought the assistant referee was indicating a pass back infringement. It was madness for a while". During the confusion the officials seemed to change their mind more than once but the evantual outcome was a goal for the Scorpions and a yellow card for Boulton.

The Crusaders came out after the break fired up. They certainly took the sting out of the Scorpion attack and delivered four quick goals of their own to blitz the Scorpion defense and take the spoils. Freshman Zezinho Presti opened the scoring with a rocket 25 yard effort which went in off both posts. Skipper Joe McNiell followed up with the game winning, go ahead goal before Reece Wilson and Ryan Weir added more. UTB pulled a late goal back but Carey saw the game to a winning finish by 4-2 to remain unbeaten and 2-0-1 on the young season.

"This was a weekend that showed our character and mental toughness. We did not play as well as we might have wanted but we persevered and got the result. I thought we were mentally strong in both games when it would have been easy to wilt or to get anxious with one another", said Boulton.

Next up for the Crusaders is LSU-Shreveport and Northwood (FL) here on the campus of William Carey University, September 10 and 11 respectively.
