Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey baseball coach Bobby Halford has announced the signing of junior college transfers Quin Stokes, Cory Williams, Patrick Kirkland, Will White, and Jake Hawkins along with incoming freshman Matt Carona for the 2010-11 academic year.
Last season the Crusaders finished with a 31-27 record and 22-11 mark in GCAC play.
Stokes, a catcher/first baseman from East Central Community College, was named All Region 23 and All State during his sophomore campaign head coach Neal Holliman.
Williams, a pitcher from Jones County Junior College, posted a 10-2 record with one save. The righthander had a team-best 1.67 ERA. In 75 1/3 innings, he notched 51 strikeouts, allowed only 57 hits and walked only 15. Williams tossed three shutouts and held opponents to a .205 batting average. The former Northeast Jones standout was named All- Region 23.
Kirkland, a catcher from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, hit .337 for head coach Gary Rath. The second team All State selection belted 8 home runs and recorded 31 RBI's.
White, an outfielder from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College hit .370 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI's. The former Stone County standout was named second team All State.
Hawkins, an infielder from Pearl River Community College, hit .278 for head coach Jamie McMahon. The former Sumrall High standout belted 7 home runs, 9 doubles and drove in 20 runs. Hawkins led the Wildcats with 19 stolen bases.
Carona, a SS/2B/3B from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Hammond, LA, hit .440 and field .960 for former Carey head coach John Stephenson. Carona fielded .965 on the year and was named All District.
