Decatur, Ala. - Oklahoma City handed William Carey their first loss in the 2010 NAIA National Tournament as they defeat the Lady Crusaders, 5-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Wilson Morgan Sportsplex.
Oklahoma City jumped all over Carey starter Melanie Bush scoring four runs over the first three innings to open a lead in which WCU could not recover. The Lady Stars got a sacrifice fly from Lily LaVelle in the first inning, a solo homer from Laurin Hess in the second and then scored two runs in the third a costly error by the WCU defense.
The Lady Stars extended the lead to 5-0 with a run in the top of the sixth before WCU scratched with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Melanie Bush was tagged with loss allowing four runs in just 2 1/3 innings. Tan Montgomery, Jeana Erickson, and Larke Nightengale each collected two hits.
William Carey will take on GCAC rival Belhaven University at 2:30 pm in an elimination game.
WCU and Belhaven met seven times in the regular season with Belhaven winning four of the match-ups. The last two times these teams met was in the 2010 GCAC Tournament with Carey coming out on top 11-3 and 2-0 to win the GCAC tournament title.
