Carey Softball Advances to Thrid Straight NAIA National Tournament
Charleston, West Virginia- No. 13 William Carey plated 32 runs and allowed just four hits as they advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the third consecutive year by defeating SUNY-Canton 10-0 and 22-0 to capture the NAIA Unaffiliated Conference Tournament.


This is the second straight season the Lady Crusaders have captured the NAIA Unaffiliated Conference Championship. Junior outfielder Tan Montgomery was named tournament MVP.

In game one Montgomery and the rest of the Lady Crusaders got off to a slow start going quietly in the top of the first but in the second Montgomery and the Carey offense heated up. WCU plated three runs in the second highlighted by Montgomery's two run homer and her day was just getting started. The former Salem High standout was on fire finishing game one going 3 for 4 with three RBI and in game two she went 6 for 6 with seven RBI's. The only time SUNY-Canton kept Montgomery off the base path was her first at bat of the game. On the day Montgomery scored six runs, belted two home runs, had one double, and one stolen base.

As for the rest of game one, WCU scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and Judy Barber's three run homer capped the scoring in a four run sixth.

Alyssa Boutwell and Melanie Bush teamed up for a six inning no hitter. Boutwell struck out 12 in five innings of work

In game two the Lady Crusaders' got four hits each from Casey Alexander and Shayna Turner to go along with Montgomery's six hit effort as WCU trounced SUNY-Canton 22-0.

Carey also go three hits each from Jeana Erickson and Courtney Murray.

Anna Ard, Kelsey Jo Smith, Katie McCrary, and Melanie Bush teamed up for the four hit shutout.

The 30th Annual NAIA Softball Championship will be held May 20-26 at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, AL. Pool Play brackets will be announced in the next few days. For more information visit www.careyathletics.com.
