Alyssa Boutwell- allowed three hits in six innings of work to pick up win
Gulf Shores, AL- Day two of the 2010 GCAC Softball Tournament was a marathon day for the Lady Crusaders. Starting at noon WCU played in four straight games, winning three, and the reward for their efforts, the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship.

WCU defeated No. 5 Belhaven University, 2-0 in the championship game. WCU's Alyssa Boutwell and Belhaven ace Sarah Burns locked up in a classic pitcher's duel. Both pitchers placed zeros on the board for the first five innings but in the top of the sixth it was Burns and the Lady Blazer's that blinked.

Burns started the inning getting a quick out but then surrendered a walk to WCU's Kelsey Jo Smith. Tan Montgomery followed with a double but an error by the Lady Blazers on the play allowed Smith to scamper home for the first run of the night. Carey wasn't finished as Casey Alexander ripped an RBI single thru the hole at short to score Montgomery to make it 2-0 WCU.
From their Boutwell and the WCU defense held strong as they allowed only one Belhaven base runner over the final two innings.

William Carey moves on to the NAIA Unaffiliated Conferences Tournament to be held in Charleston, West Virginia. WCU will take on the Sunrise Athletic Conference Champions in a three game series May 6-8.
