Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey men's golf posted rounds of 316-307 to finish in third place in the 2010 GCAC Men's Golf Championship at Timberton Golf Club.
"We have had a rough go at for the last two weeks and even this week we did not play our best golf," said head coach DJ Pulley.
On Tuesday, the friendly confines of Timberton Golf Club were not too friendly to the Crusaders as they opened with a disappointing score of the 316. Mobile and Spring Hill each posted 305's for the first round lead.
"Yesterday started just like last week but this time the guys competed on the back nine and did not allow the round to get away."
In the final round on Wednesday, WCU posted its lowest round of the spring with a 307 but the damage had already been done. Spring Hill fired a closing round of 298 to take home the title.
"The final round was the best we competed all year." "A couple of bad shots really hurt us but the guys worked really hard to try to get back in the tournament," said Pulley.
Corey Ward finished T7 for the Crusaders posting rounds of 80 -73. Matt Hungerman, Brett Holmes, and Andrew Gray finished in a tie for 12th at 156. Stone Thames and Gavin Vegas finished 18th and 20th respectively.
WCU is back in action on April 19-20 as they take part in the NAIA Unaffiliated Conference's Tournament in Columbus, GA.
