Hattiesburg, MS- No. 6 William Carey got seven brilliant innings from sophomore Alyssa Boutwell as they take game one of the doubleheader from Grand View College, 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
After a quick first inning, the Carey bats got going in the second inning a Nikki Sanders doubled to score Tan Montgomery to put WCU 1-0. The lead was extended in the third inning as Jeana Erickson and Bree Neidhardt executed a double steal from the corners which allowed Neidhardt to score and make it 2-0 WCU. Casey Alexander led off the fifth with triple and Judy Barber productive RBI grounder to second scored Alexander and increase the Carey lead to 3-0.
Alyssa Boutwell was stellar in the circle for the Lady Crusaders firing a three hit shut out to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Game Two is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
