Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey spilt the Saturday double header against the University of Mobile winning game one 3-1 and falling in game two by the score of 6-5.
In game one the Crusaders fell behind early allowing one run in the first inning on a wild pitch but WCU would not stay down for long as Josh Dannelley would tie the game in the bottom of the second on a solo home run. The Crusaders would take the lead in the fourth inning with a pinch hit RBI single by Ethan Burt. A Mobile error would allow Burt to score later in the inning to give Carey a 3-1 advantage.
Starting pitcher Scotty Reese in a complete game effort allowed only one run on five hits while striking out eight Mobile hitters.
Leading the way at the plate for Carey was Jacob Casey, Ethan Burt each with a hit and RBI, and J. Dannelley who went 1-2 (HR) and an RBI.
In game two of the double header the Crusaders struck first scoring two runs in the second inning. The Rams however would answer getting six runs on five hits and an error in the top half of the third to take the lead 6-2. The Crusaders would get one run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to cut the Mobile lead to 6-5. That would be the closest Carey would get.
Starting pitcher Zach Magee (1-1) would not fair as well as his counterparts in the previous games. Magee went 2 2/3 innings allowing six runs on six hits while striking out two before giving way to relief pitcher Matt Carter. Carter would keep the Rams at bay but it was enough as the Crusader attack would come up short. Carter went 6.1 innings allowing two hits and striking out eight.
Leading the offense for the Crusaders was Jordan Prout going 2-4 with 2 RBI, Will Dannelley going 2-3 with an RBI, and Ethan Burt going 2-4 with an RBI.
