Jim Roseberry- allowed no runs on five hits in complete game win

Hattiesburg, MS- Sophomore Jim Roseberry needed only 87 pitches as he fired a five hit shutout as No. 14 William Carey opened up a three game GCAC series with Mobile by defeating the Rams 5-0  Friday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field.

It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the 3rd inning when an RBI single by Chantse Edwards would score Jordan Prout to put the Crusaders up 1-0.  It was not until the sixth inning that the Crusaders finally broke the game open as Shannon Steed belted at a three run homer to put Carey up 4-0. WCU would add an insurance run in the seventh inning with another RBI single by Edwards to cap the scoring 5-0.

A five run lead was more than enough support for starting pitcher Jim Roseberry (2-1).  Roseberry in a complete game effort surrendered only five base hits, none of which were extra base hits, while striking out six Ram hitters to earn the victory.

Leading the offense for Carey was Chantse Edwards going 3-3 with 2 RBI and Shannon Steed going 2-4 with 3 RBI.

The Crusaders (11-8, 10-3 GCAC) are back in action Saturday March 6, 2010 at Milton Wheeler Field first pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
