Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey opened the home portion of the 2010 fashion in grand fashion by defeating Judson College, 6-1 and 9-2 Thursday afternoon at Fail Field.
In game one, Kelsey Jo Smith picked up her first win of the season as she allowed two hits and one run in a 6-1 Carey victory. Nikki Sanders' RBI single in the bottom of the first opened the scoring for the Lady Crusaders but Judson tied the game at one with a run in the top of the fifth. Carey answered with a four spot in the bottom half of the inning and Jeana Erickson capped the scoring with a sac fly in the sixth.
In game two Anna Ard fanned thirteen Lady Eagles and the Carey offense pounded out a dozen hits in a 9-2 win. Carey did all their damage in the decisive fifth inning as they sent fourteen batters to the plate, highlighted by Judy Barber and Jeana Erickson's back to back homers in the nine run inning.
WCU is back in action next weekend as they take part in the Judson Tournament on Friday and Mobile Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
