Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey snapped a five game losing streak as they closed the 2009-10 regular season with a 77-59 victory over Loyola University on Senior Night.
An 8-0 run midway through the first half staked the Lady Crusaders to a lead they would never relinquish. WCU held a 37-23 lead at the break and extended the lead to 59-36 with ten minutes left. The 23-point lead was the largest of the night for the Lady Crusaders.
Loyola made a late surge with the help of seven second-half three-pointers, including four in a row to come within 13 with three minutes remaining. However, Kim Lewis scored eight consecutive points for William Carey, then Kendria Young hit her fourth three of the night to put Loyola away for good,
William Carey (14-14, 10-8 GCAC) was led by Kim Lewis with 19 points and Kendria Young finished with 14. Alisha Mason added 10 points, while Britta Stephens and Hope Swindle had nine each.
WCU is back in action on Wednesday as they open the GCAC playoffs in Jackson, MS, against Tougaloo College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
