New Orleans, LA- Behind Drew Meyerchick's 35 points and Brandon Cooks' 23 points and 18 rebound effort William Carey gave head coach Steve Knight career win number 500 as the Crusaders roll past Dillard University, 80-62 Thursday night at Dent Hall.
"It was a special game, and I think the guys knew it," Knight said. "They played a great game, probably one of our best games of the year."
Carey improved to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in conference. Dillard dropped to 2-14 and 0-10 in GCAC play.
Knight, now in his 28th season as the Crusaders' coach, has averaged a little over 17 wins a season since taking over the program in 1982. He's led Carey to six GCAC championships and seven appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
"Every player, every coach, every assistant coach we've had here would own a piece of that, going back to that first year," Knight said.
As for the game Carey jumped all over the Blue Devils using a 15-4 run to open the game and never looked back. The Crusader lead never got smaller than 7 points and they led by as many as 21 points in the contest.
The Crusaders return home on Saturday to open a four game home stand as they take on Spring Hill College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
