Mobile, AL- #16 William Carey Lady Crusaders netted four first half goals as they knocked off the University of Mobile, 4-2 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Lady Crusaders opened the scoring quickly as Natalia Nino blasted home the games opening goal in only the second minute of play. Both teams settled into a defensive game for the next 35 minutes then the Lady Crusader offense exploded. Carey scored three goals in the halfs final eight minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Shannon Steffen, Karina Almendarez, and Nino eached netted goals.

Mobile trimmed the Carey lead with goals from Chelsea Bates in the 53rd minute and Aislinn Finfrock in the 71st minute but the Lady Crusaders would not allow them to get any closer as they held on for the 4-2 victory.  "I was really impressed with the mentality of our girls tonight and the way they came out to play, especially in the 1st half.  The girls played some really nice soccer and we scored some quality goals.  Anytime you can take a 4 nil lead going into halftime against a team like Mobile, as a coach, you really have to be proud.  I thought Mobile played hard for the entire 90 minutes and you have to credit them for the way the came out in the 2nd half and kept fighting," said Coach Owens. 

With the win Carey improves to 9-2-1 on the season and 4-0 in GCAC play.

The Lady Crusaders return to action in GCAC play on Saturday as they travel to Shreveport, LA, to take on LSUS.
