Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey placed three players in double figures, shot over fifty percent from the floor, and had only 15 turnovers against Mobile's relentless full court pressure as they knock off the Rams 75-63, Monday night at Clinton Gym.
With big men Brandon Cooks and Cory Smith in foul trouble of much of the first half, the Crusaders turned to their guards to stay in the game. Drew Meyerchick, Terry Wade, Chase Combest and Marcus Spann totaled 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting in the half. The Crusaders outscored the Rams 16 to 7 over the final ten minutes of the half to take a 35-27 lead into intermission.
In the second half it was the Carey big men that did the damage. Brandon Cooks and Cory Smith totaled 29 second half points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Carey lead never got smaller than seven points in the second frame.
Brandon Cooks led Carey with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Smith finished with 16 points while Drew Meyerchick added 14 points.
Ji Kimbrough was sensational for the Rams totaling 29 points to lead all scorers.
Carey is back in action on Thursday at Clinton Gym as they host Tougaloo College in GCAC play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
