Jackson, MS- Shannon Steffen netted two goals and Aimi Beresford added another as the #17 Lady Crusaders knocked off Belhaven College, 3-0 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Play.
After battling through a scoreless first half the Lady Crusaders finally broke through in the 71st minute as Aimi Beresford notched the games first goal. The Lady Crusaders continued their offensive assault and Shannon Steffen capped the scoring with goals in the 85th and 88th minute.
Jordan Morrison recorded five saves in working her second shut out of the season. "Tonight was definitely a battle for our girls and I am happy that we came away with a conference win. I thought Belhaven came out with a lot of emotion and took the game to us. I have to give credit to our girls tonight in that they continued to fight and they continued play for 90 minutes. Belhaven and Carey have always been a good rivalry and I did not expect anything different. We will enjoy this win tonight, but have prepare ourselves for another tough conference game on Tuesday," said Coach Owens.
With the Win Carey improves to 8-2-1 and 3-0 in GCAC play.
The Lady Crusaders return to action in GCAC play on October 21, as they travel to Mobile to take on the University of Mobile.
