Gemma Metcalfe- scored first goal in Carey win
Hattiesburg, MS- Fresh off their new No. 4 ranking William Carey University blasted the Lady Blazers of Belhaven College, 4-0 Tuesday evening at Crusader Field.
    
The Lady Crusaders climbed three spots from No. 7 to No. 4 in the recent NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
 
With the emotions of Senior Night the Lady Crusaders blitzed Belhaven from the start netting three goals in the first 20 minutes. Aim Beresford, Natalia Nino, and Gemma Metcalfe each netted goals.
   
Carey put the icing on the cake in the 50th as Nino picked up her second goal of the day.
     
Prior to kick off Seniors Aimi Beresford, Brittany Doyle, Jeana Erickson, Sagan Elliot, Linda Garcia, Hannah Johnson, Lauren Renz, Shayna Turner, and Karina Almendarez were recognized as part of Senior Night festivities. Over their 4 year career, these ladies have amassed 60 wins, 13 losses, and 3 ties, which including 2 GCAC Championships, a #12 national ranking in 2007, a #16 national ranking in 2008, a 2008 National Tournament Elite 8 appearance. The ladies have also been awarded the NAIA Team scholar award, in which the team's accumulative GPA was over 3.0.
 
"What a great group of seniors we had on the field tonight," said Head Coach Danny Owens. "These girls were my first recruiting class at Carey. I would have never guessed they would have had such a great four years here but they have been awesome. I am very lucky to have had such a great group of for four years."
       
The Lady Crusaders look to clinch the GCAC regular season championship on Saturday as they take on the University of Mobile. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm in Mobile.
