Hattiesburg, MS- Junior Shayna Turner golden goal in double overtime helped No. 7 William Carey escape Spring Hill College, 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Crusader Field.
The Lady Badgers wasted little time in opening the scoring as Allison Akers scored only thirteen seconds into the contest. Jeana Erickson answered back for the Lady Crusaders in the 14th minute to tie the game 1-1. The score remained 1-1 until the 75th minute when Abby Galen hooked up with Katie Pendergast to put the Lady Badgers back in front.
Trailing 2-1, Aimi Beresford founded Natalia Nino in close to tie the game once again in the 85th minute of play. In the overtimes Carey attacked relentlessly out shooting the Lady Badgers 4-0 and finally broke through in the 102nd minute of play as Turner knocked home the game winner.
With the win Carey improves to 11-1-1 on the season.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action next Monday as they take on Covenant College. Kick-off is set 1:00 pm at Crusader Field.
