Birmingham, AL- Senior Matt Hungerman erased a two shot deficit with a final round 71 to take home medalist honors at the 2009 BSC Fall Shootout at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Oxmoor Valley on Tuesday.
As a team the Crusaders finished 6th firing rounds of 307-311-313 in the fourteen team tournament. Huntingdon College captured the team title with rounds of 299-294-300.
Gavin Vegas finished T24 with rounds of 76-79-76. Stone Thames finished T49 with rounds of 76-80-85, Corey Ward carded scores of 83-82-81 to finish in a tie for 56th place, and Brett Holmes finished in 62nd placed with rounds of 81-79-89.
Hungerman's day got off to a great start with a birdie at the 545 yard par 5 ninth hole, his second hole of the day. Following a bogey on No. 11, he eagled the par 5 14th sinking a 35 foot putt to move to two under on the day. Bogeys on 17 and 1 brought him back to even par but he closed with six straight pars to finish up his day. Hungerman's 71 tied for low round of the tournament.
Tuesday's win was Hungerman's third since arriving at Carey last fall.
The Crusaders return to action on Monday as they take part in the Chick-fil-a Classic hosted by Berry College at Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA.
