CLEVELAND, Oh. –NACDA (National Association of Intercollegiate Directors of Athletics) has announced the 2016-17 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings and William Carey University placed fifth overall in the NAIA and was first among SSAC schools. The cup points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 12 sports within the NAIA, six each for women and men.
WCU accumulated 656.00 total points, scoring in 12 total sports, including a third place showing in baseball. In the spring sports, Carey totaled 395.00 points which was the best total in the NAIA. Carey's fifth place finish is the highest in program history.
" The 2016-17 season was a tremendous year for us and this is another great honor for William Carey Athletics," said Athletic Director DJ Pulley. "From start to finish our student-athletes excelled on the field and in the classroom. We will continue to strive daily to be one of the premier athletic programs not only in the NAIA and the SSAC but the entire country.
