Hattiesburg, Miss. James Land (SR/Gulfport, Miss.)'s two-run opposite field walk-off home run was the difference as No. 3 seed William Carey defeated No. 2 seed Texas Wesleyan, 6-5 to advance to the championship round of the Hattiesburg Bracket in the 2017 NAIA Baseball National Tournament at Milton Wheeler Field.

Carey will take on Southeastern (Fla.) at 1:30 pm today. Carey will need to defeat the Fire twice to advance to the World Series.

Land led Carey at the plate going 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBI's.

The excitement got started in the first inning as Land and the Ram's Luis Roman exchanged two run home runs. Roman struck again with a two run shot in the fifth to move the Rams in front 4-2 but Carey answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning as Adrian Brown (SR/McComb, Miss.)'s two run double tied the game at four.

In the top of the seventh Texas Wesleyan moved back in front on a Kiki Menendez RBI double to take a 5-4 lead.

Things looked bleak for WCU in the ninth as Roman entered the game in relief for the Rams. With two outs, Tyler Graves (SR/Petal, Miss.) kept the Crusaders hope alive with a 3-2 two out single. Then Land delivered as he belted the first pitch he saw from Roman to deep left field for the game winner.

Dylan Spiers (JR/Carriere, Miss.) picked up the win in relief striking out five in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Texas Wesleyan finishes its season at 47-15.
