Hattiesburg, Miss.- A three run seventh inning was the difference as  No. 1 seed Southeastern (Fla.) defeated No. 3 seed William Carey (Miss.) 5-2 to advance to the championship game of the Hattiesburg Bracket in the 2017 NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round.

The Fire pushed across two runs in the top of third inning with a RBI sacrifice fly by Mike D'Acunti and a RBI single from Luke Maher. Carey answered back in the fifth inning as Tyler Graves belted a two run shot to left field to tie the game at 2.

In the seventh inning, things came undone for the Crusaders. A pair of leadoff walks proved costly and Luis Diaz took advantage with a RBI single to put the Fire back in front. Southeastern added two more runs later in the inning to open a 5-2 lead.

Carey threatened in the bottom of the ninth but reliever John Jaeger worked his way out of the jam to end the game.

William Carey will be back in action tomorrow at 10 am as they take on the winner of Lyon/ Texas Wesleyan in an elimination game.
