MONTGOMERY, Ala. – William Carey (Miss.) swept the SSAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, with Devin Smith earning Pitcher of the week honors and James Land earning the Player of the Week nod, the conference office announced Monday.


The awards are based on performance for the week of March 13-19.

Devin Smith (SO – P – Franklinton, La.)

  • William Carey went 5-0 on the week and Smith won his only start at Brewton-Parker
  • He logged six innings, allowing only two runs on one hit, while striking out eight
  • On the year, he is 5-0 in seven starts with 31 strikeouts in 36.2 innings worked

James Land (SR – 1B – Gulfport, Miss.)

  • The Crusaders went 5-0 on the week to improve to 22-5 overall, with sweeps over LSU-Alexandria and Brewton-Parker
  • Land batted .591 and slugged 1.091 overall, totaling 13 hits, 11 runs, 11 RBIs and six extra-base hits
  • He belted two home runs and a triple in game two v. Brewton-Parker and went 5-for-5 in the finale
  • On the year, he is hitting .400 and slugging .779, while leading the team with 38 hits and eight home runs
