Mount Vernon, GA- The 12th ranked Crusaders continued their winning ways tonight as they defeated Brewton Parker College 17-2 in a game shortened by the ten run-rule after 7 innings. Carey pounded out 12 hits in the game while Devin Smith only allowed one hit in six innings of work.

Carey wasted no time in the game as Adrian Brown and Tyler James had back to back singles to open the game. Tyler Graves was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Tyler Odom opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly that was thrown away allowing two runs to score. The Crusaders continued to pour it on in the second inning as Christian Smith, Wes Brown, and Tyler James all picked up hits. Graves provided the big blast of the inning as he launched his third homer of the season to put Carey up 7-0. The Crusaders picked up another run in the top of third to push the lead to 8-0 before Brewton Parker pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning.

In the top of the fourth inning the Crusaders put the game away for good as they plated four more runs to push the lead to 12-1. James Land led off the inning with a single and was followed by a rocket up the middle from Tyler Odom. Larson Barkurn and C. Smith drew back to back walks to plate another run and Cody Christian and Wes Brown both knocked runs in with sacrifice fly balls. Carey added 5 more runs in the top of the fifth inning after James led off with a walk and moved up to third on a wild pitch and a balk. He was driven in when Graves picked up his 41st RBI of the season with an infield single. The remainder of the Crusader runs were scored via walk, hit batter, and another hit provided by W. Brown. The Barons were able to plate one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide the final score.

Devin Smith picked up his fifth win of the season going six innings and striking out 6. Smith carried a no hitter into the fifth inning but allowed a single to break it up. The hitter was quickly retired when Graves threw him out at second attempting to move up on a ball in the dirt. Sam Richard pitched the final frame for the Crusaders picking up two strikeouts and not allowing a baserunner. A. Brown, Graves, Odom, C. Smith, and W. Brown all had two hits on the evening for Carey.

The Crusaders have now won 16 of their last 17 games and stand at 20-5, 6-1 SSAC on the season. The series with Brewton Parker continues tomorrow in Mount Vernon with a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled at 1:00 EST. The game can be viewed live at
