Former Crusader All-American midfielder and Wall of Famer Andy Barron has been selected to play for his national team of New Zealand in the Confederation Cup to be played in South Africa in June. World Champions Italy, European Champions Spain and the United States will be in the tournament along with Brazil, Egypt, Iraq and the hosts South Africa.Barron graduated from Carey in 2003 and played professionally in Ireland, and the USA before returning to New Zealand where he currently plays with Petone after a spell at Wellington where he was first capped for his country in 2006.
