Santa Barbara, Calif.- Adrian Brown (JR/McComb, MS)'s solo home run in the top of the ninth inning was the difference as No. 25 William Carey University defeated College of Idaho, 7-6 in day two action of the Santa Barbra Bracket in the 2016 NAIA Baseball National Championship  Opening Round. 

The Crusaders got to work in the top of the first inning plating two runs thanks to two errors from the Yotes and in the second inning they extended the lead to 3-0 on Larson Barkurn (JR/Petal, Miss.)'s RBI sacrifice fly.

College of Idaho cut the lead to 3-1 on Mitch Skaggs lead off solo home run in the bottom of the fourth but WCU answered right back with a long ball of its own. James Land (JR/Saucier, MS)'s two run home run to centerfield in the top of the fifth inning extended the lead to 5-1.

Leading 6-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning  Carey starter Tyler Odom (JR/Hattiesburg, MS) ran into trouble. With a runner on and one out, Odom hit the next two batters to load the bases. Sam Richard (JR/Jackson, MS) came on in relief and the Yotes Bobby Wright promptly tied the game with a grand slam.

In the top of the ninth the Crusaders were down to their final strike when All-SSAC standout Adrian Brown delivered a solo home run to left field to put the Crusaders back in front, 7-6.

Kyle Deckwa (SR/Slidell, LA) then retired the side in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

WCU is back in action tomorrow in another elimination game as they take on Westmont (Calif.). First pitch is set for 11 am (PST).
