Hattiesburg, MS- #19 William Carey University Lady Crusaders opened Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Spring Hill College Tuesday afternoon at the WCU Soccer Complex.
It looked like the scoring would be fast and furious early own as Shannon Steffen netted the games first goal only three minutes into the game but the pace cooled considerably over the final forty two minutes of the half as each team totaled eight shots in the half.
The second half would start much like the first as Karina Almendarez put Carey up 2-0 with a goal in the 49th minute but the Lady Badgers rallied as Kasey Pruett put home goals in the 51st and 75th minute to tie things up.
For most of the second half the Lady Crusaders attacked relentlessly but the Lady Badgers Kayla McCrory was solid in the goal picking up four saves in the half but the relentless Carey onslaught proved to much as Aimi Beresford found Shayna Turner for the game winner in the 87th minute.
With the win Carey improves to 4-2-1 on the season.
Carey returns to action in GCAC play on Saturday as they take on LSU-Shreveport. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm at the WCU Soccer Complex.
