Hattiesburg, Miss.- William Carey University surrendered three goals over the final 42 minutes as they fell to Savannah College of Arts & Design, 4-3 in overtime Friday afternoon at Crusader Field.
The Crusaders got off to a promising start as Lorris Cortijo connected on a penalty kick in the 15th minute to give WCU an early 1-0 lead. SCAD answered moments later as Naim El-Harriti netted in the 18th minute to tie the game but Joaquin Serrano answered for the Crusaders to put WCU up 2-1 with a goal in the 21st minute.
In the second half WCU held an 11 to 4 advantage in shots but SCAD made the most of their opportunities. In the 50th minute Jordan Trinci-Lyne tied the game as he deflected a kick by the WCU keeper back into the goal to make it 2-2. SCAD went up 3-2 in the 77th minute but WCU rallied and Mohamed Degheb scored in the 80th minute to tie the game and force overtime.
In the overtime the Bee's needed just two minute as John McAleenan netted the game winner.
WCU returns to action on Saturday as they host Bellevue University. Kick-off is set for 2:00 pm at Crusader Field.
