Hattiesburg, Miss.- (Bracket | Tournament Website | Box Score) Oklahoma Baptist scored six runs in the first and third inning as they cruised past William Carey, 13-5 in game seven of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Milton Wheeler Field.
In the bottom of the first the Crusaders had all kinds of difficulty finding the strike zone. OBU sent eleven batters to the plate and scored six runs on just four hits.
Clint Ambrosch got WCU on the board with an RBI double in the second inning then it was déjà vu all over again for the Crusaders in the bottom of the third. The Bison again sent eleven hitters to the plate and scored six runs except this time they only needed three hits as they opened a 12-1 lead. WCU issued four walks and committed two errors that led to three of the six runs for OBU in the inning.
Carey would cut the lead to 13-5 with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but would get no closer.
Ambrosch led WCU at the plate going 3 for 4 with one RBI.
Brandon Laubhan paced a twelve hit attack for the Bison going 3 for 5 with two RBI. Greg Nelson, Matt Page, and Yael Colon each had two hits. Richard Lucas picked up the win to improve to 8-3.
Oklahoma Baptist will take on Northwood at 4:30 pm in the championship round of the Hattiesburg Bracket. William Carey is eliminated from the championship and finishes the season at 36-23.
