Hattiesburg, Miss. - William Carey University has been waiting for this game since January 17th and tonight they got a measure of revenge as they trounced 9th ranked Faulkner University, 95-72 in SSAC action.
The Crusaders suffered their first SSAC loss of the season back in January as they dropped a gut wrenching double overtime decision in Montgomery however tonight the Crusaders left little to doubt.
The lead went back and forth at the start before WCU cranked up the defense and reeled off a 23-5 run to take command. The Crusaders went into half up by 16 and pushed the lead to as much as 26 points midway thru the second half.
Faulkner made one last run cutting the lead to 74-65 with 4:17 to play but back to back three point baskets from Jeremiah Dunnings ended the run and WCU never looked back.
The Crusaders finished the game shooting 28 for 56 (50%) from the floor and went 10 for 20 from behind the arc.
Dunnings led WCU with 32 points going 7 for 9 from downtown. DaRon Bell finished with 26 points and 6 steals. Kelvin Nixon added 16 points.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday as they travel Jackson, MS, to take on Belhaven University.
