New Orleans, LA- William Carey University men's basketball wrapped up non-conference play on the road Monday night as they drop a 70-59 decision to former GCAC rival Southern University- New Orleans.
      
The Knights torched the Crusaders defense in the first half shooting 56% (13 for 23) from the floor to open a 39-21 lead. In the second half, WCU attempted a rally getting as close as eight points but three un-timely turnovers halted the Crusader run.
 

Phillip McCray led WCU with a game high 13 points. Donzedrick Smith finished with 11 points.
Devin White led SUNO with 12 points, 10 blocks, and 8 rebounds.
 
WCU returns to action on Thursday as they host Loyola University (LA) in a critical SSAC showdown. In the SSAC West six teams are vying for five spots into the SSAC playoffs. The
Crusaders sit one game out of first place trailing Mobile and Loyola and are two games clear of sixth place Spring Hill. The top three seeds from the east and west receive a first round bye.   Tip-off in the critical SSAC contest is set for 7:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
