Jackson, MS- William Carey committed 26 turnovers and surrendered 14 offensive rebounds as they fell to No. 18 Belhaven University 74-58 Thursday night in SSAC action at Rugg Arena.
 

 
With the loss WCU falls to 7-9 and 4-5 in SSAC play.
 

The Lady Blazers jumped on Carey right out of the gate opening the game with an 8-2 run. WCU responded as Chelsea Combest and Erin Holifield hit back to back three point baskets to put WCU up 12-11 with 13:17 to play.  Carey continued its strong play and stretched the lead to 26-21 on a Megan Reynolds three point basket with 6:37 left in the half. Belhaven answered as they closed the half  with a 17-6 run to open a 38-32 lead at the break.
In the second half, Carey cut the lead to 41-40 on Holifield's third three of the game with 14:10 to play but that would be as close as WCU would get as the Lady Blazers used 13-2 run late in the game to put the game away.
Megan Reynolds and Crystal Tucker led WCU with 12 points each. Kiara Johnson led Belhaven with a game high 17 points.
WCU returns to action on Saturday as they host Auburn Montgomery in SSAC action. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
